- I think it's a good abstract because it highlights something that we've known about from stroke for a period of time, but sort of supports what we've known. And that's that people come in with strokes after they've had IV drug use we're always concerned that maybe that increases their risk of stroke from particularly what they're looking for here, this endocarditis. So we think about what that is, it's sort of infection of the blood from a bacteria right that's gonna go to the heart either affect the lining of the heart or the valves or the blood vessels and therefore increase their risk of stroke. And what this abstract or study showed is that really the people coming in with this sort of increased opiod use, which now we know is a big problem in the United States and elsewhere, but that this might be another risk factor for stroke. Right, rather than all we talk about high blood pressure, diabetes, et cetera, but IV drug use and it's association with endocarditis as a risk factor for recurrent stroke, or for stroke, is important. So I think what they found really highlighted that the risk was increased in the patients that they saw that were IV drug users who developed endocarditis and then subsequently had a stroke.
