Omaha, Dec. 1, 2022 - Michaela Newman, director of heart and vascular health at Nebraska Medicine, has been appointed the new president of the American Heart Association - Metro Omaha Board of Directors. In this role, Newman will help lead the achievements of the Association’s mission to build longer, stronger lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke though the oversight of local revenue and health impact activities. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular disease.
Serving in various roles at Nebraska Medicine over 25 years, her program encompasses cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and heart and lung transplant. Her involvement with the AHA includes participating in the annual Greater Omaha Heart & Stroke Walk and raising funds for the mission, as well as serving on the board.
“I am proud of the work the American Heart Association does and am proud to be part of it,” said Newman. “My volunteer experiences have been rewarding in so many ways. We have the ability to impact patients and their families through education, research and community service.”
