DURHAM, NC, July 7, 2022 – Thanks to a generous individual donor and cardiac arrest survivor, the American Heart Association, a global force for longer, healthier lives, awarded community health mini-grants to six Triangle area organizations:

  • InterAct of Wake County
  • Juniper Level Missionary Baptist Church
  • Latino Community Credit Union
  • ReCity
  • Village at Washington
  • Wakefield Missionary Baptist Church

The grants will help to improve the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest chain of survival among Triangle’s most at-risk populations. Specifically, the grant awardees will create organizational CPR policies, practices and programs to increase the number of Triangle residents who are able to confidently perform Hands-Only CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) during a cardiac emergency.

“Each year 350,000 people in the United States experience a sudden cardiac arrest and, sadly only about 10% of those people survive. With sudden cardiac arrest being the leading cause of death, the American Heart Association is pleased to award mini grants to these six organizations,” said Anne Miller, regional executive director, American Heart Association.

“We look forward to working together to address the challenges faced by the most at-risk populations as we uphold our commitment to building a healthier, more prosperous Triangle community. It is very exciting to continue our health equity efforts in Triangle by providing these community health mini-grants,” continued Miller.  “Together, we are working to build sustainable change to improve the health of our community by bolstering CPR programs and inspiring new programs to come to fruition.”
