MILWAUKEE, December 7, 2022 – The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization devoted to world of healthier lives for all, announces Patricia Golden, DO, interim clinical president of Ascension Medical Group Wisconsin, as the community volunteer chair of the 2022-2023 Milwaukee Go Red for Women movement.

Go Red for Women is a worldwide initiative of the American Heart Association designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally, and globally.

Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. Cardiovascular disease continues to be a woman’s greatest health threat, taking the life of one in every three women.

“One is too many,” Golden said. “One in three women are dying of cardiovascular disease and losing one woman isn’t an option. And that is why I am chairing the 2023 Milwaukee Go Red for Women campaign.

“I have a strong family history of cardiovascular disease, and I recently lost my father to sudden cardiac arrest due to his history of atrial fibrillation. This motivates me to work in his honor to further the mission of the American Heart Association. And through Go Red for Women, I am dedicated to reaching more women to empower them to take control of their health. And when women come together, there isn’t anything we can’t achieve.”

The 2023 event will be held Friday, May 12, at The Pfister Hotel, Milwaukee. Doors open at 10 a.m., and new this year is a Women’s Health Expo until 11:30 a.m. Exhibits include blood pressure, a heart-healthy food drive, stroke awareness, CPR demonstrations and more. This year’s Women of Impact winner will be announced, and visitors can bid on themed purses and bags during a “Purse-Anality” auction.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Golden’s experience, conviction and passion help to drive Go Red in Southeast Wisconsin,” said Katie Connolly, Milwaukee American Heart Association Executive Director, Development and Community Health. “Together, we know that we will have a positive impact on the lives of women in our community and the families that depend on them.”

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 19 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
