SIOUX FALLS, S.D., December 1, 2022 - Tony Burke has joined the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, as the State Government Relations Director for North Dakota and South Dakota.

Burke served nearly 20 years in the fire service, including a 4-year appointment in Washington, D.C., with the International Association of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation leading more than 300,000 members in the field of burn prevention, advocacy, and survivor support. He has committed his career to non-profit work and service to the community and has served in roles supporting the disaster response and recovery sectors, a complex health care startup, and the food bank industry.

“The groundbreaking research and subject matter expert resources the American Heart Association brings to the public sphere improves and saves lives!” said Burke. “The opportunity to be a bridge walker with state, civic, and community leaders to the research and resources provided by AHA, across North Dakota and South Dakota, is a humbling and significant mission.”

In his new role with the American Heart Association, Burke will focus on policy efforts to improve heart and brain health and health equity through collective community change and trusted relationship building.
