AUSTIN, Sept. 27, 2024 — The American Heart Association, the largest voluntary health organization fighting cardiovascular diseases, announces Dr. Matthew J. Ashley, chief medical officer of Centre for Neuro Skills, is serving as chair of the Austin Heart Walk.
As chair of the 2024 Austin Heart Walk, Ashley will work with local businesses, their employees, and community members to combat the leading cause of death in Austin, heart disease.
The annual Heart Walk is scheduled for Oct. 27 at Moody Amphitheater in Waterloo Park and will unite the community for a family-friendly walk, wellness activities, Hands-Only CPR education, and a celebration of survivors and their families.
"As the 2024 Austin Heart Walk chair, I am excited to work with other organizations and individuals to bring awareness to the importance of heart disease and stroke prevention," said Ashley. "I look forward to connecting with others, learning new insights and sharing vital resources to help improve the overall health of our community and remind everyone that heart health is brain health."
This year, companies participating in the Austin Heart Walk will play a crucial role in the American Heart Association’s Nation of Lifesavers™ initiative, a national effort aimed at doubling cardiac arrest survival rates by 2030.
For more than 60 years, the American Heart Association has been a global leader in resuscitation science, education, and training, and the official publisher of CPR guidelines. CPR education will be a critical element of the Austin Heart Walk with Hands-Only CPR demonstrations available to participants. Through the Nation of Lifesavers initiative, the Association is committed to empowering individuals everywhere to act in the event of a cardiac emergency, making sure that no one is left without the help they need when seconds count.
"As a medical provider, AHA’s commitment to ending heart disease and stroke has been an invaluable resource to not only me, but also to our patients and our local communities," said Ashley. "I am incredibly grateful to all those who are joining an incredible cause and stepping up to raise funds for heart disease and stroke prevention and education."
