CITY Furniture adopts a South Florida city in effort for a healthier community
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., (August 8, 2022) - The community of Pembroke Pines is receiving resources to become a healthier community, made possible by Live Fierce South Florida sponsor CITY Furniture.
"Hypertension is high in South Florida and over 40,000 people in Pembroke Pines have high blood pressure,” said Jennifer Campbell, executive director of the American Heart Association Greater Miami/Fort Lauderdale market. "With the generous support from CITY Furniture, our team was able to support thousands of individuals in our backyard."
The Live Fierce South Florida sponsorship includes working with the Pembroke Pines YMCA Family Center and their summer camp. The American Heart Association and CITY Furniture are engaging with the youth to learn how to prioritize their physical and mental health. Sport CPR kits were also donated to their after-school sports program to ensure youth coaches and athletes know the lifesaving skills of CPR, how to use an AED, and how to help during sports-related emergencies.
"This community means everything to all our associates at CITY Furniture, and we believe there's no limit to what we can accomplish in our community," said Andrew Koenig, CEO of CITY Furniture. "We are so thankful to be working directly with the American Heart Association in the Pembroke Pines community, meeting the residents where they are. Awareness is crucial, and we are thrilled to bring that to those who need it most."
The American Heart Association and CITY Furniture stood alongside the YMCA to participate in Healthy Kids, celebrating kids' mental and physical health while teaching healthy habits for kids and families, encouraging active play, and inspiring a lifetime love of physical activity. Heart healthy infographics were handed out to over 100 kids.
Through Live Fierce South Florida, CITY Furniture has also adopted a local clinic. The impact is through two Memorial Primary Care Pembroke Pines locations that will utilize heart health resources to support all 10,000 individuals, along with blood pressure cuffs to support an initiative on new mothers about hypertension awareness.
Additionally, a fruit and vegetable prescription program is under execution in Pembroke Pines in collaboration with Mobile School Pantry. Food distributions in the area have identified hypertensive patients and ensured those patients are receiving blood pressure cuffs.
The American Heart Association Greater Miami/Fort Lauderdale serves the residents of Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Sponsors assist the organization in guiding efforts to reduce incidences of heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
