Collin County cardiac nurse to lead local effort driving equitable health

PLANO, Texas, August 10, 2023 - As plans are underway for the 2023 Heart of Collin County – Heart Fest campaign, Ellie Huff has been named chair of this year’s community-wide campaign. Eleanor “Ellie” Huff MSN, RN is Vice President of Cardiovascular Service Line Operations for the The Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospitals of Plano, Denton, McKinney. Heart Fest, a Texas-themed concert and mission celebration this fall, will honor survivors, unite local community members, and bring together business leaders. Its primary goal is to raise critical funds that will support education and prevention resources, aiming to eliminate premature death from cardiovascular disease and stroke in Collin County.

“Ellie Huff exemplifies true leadership and commitment as a dedicated healthcare executive here in Collin County and is the ideal person to head our Heart Fest campaign. As a trusted member of this community, she understands the impact the mission and work of the American Heart Association can have on every person who lives in this area,” says David Brown, MD, FACC, FACP, co-founder of The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano and Board Member serving the Dallas American Heart Association.

As part of her chairmanship, Huff is determined to engage companies through sponsorship, emphasizing that their support goes beyond the event itself. She highlights the opportunity for companies to make a tangible impact by offering CPR education resources and AEDs to schools in Collin County and invites companies to actively participate in the delivery of these resources, showcasing their impact in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal by reducing barriers to health care access and quality.

During her career, Huff has been instrumental in catalyzing transformation in care delivery and has gained valuable expertise from esteemed medical centers such as Stanford, Mayo Clinic, and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania throughout her career. She is also a published author with three major academic publications and a frequent speaker for national organizations. In addition to serving her local communities in North Texas, she is a devoted mother to her three children and is championed by her husband, Ty, who is also a healthcare professional.

Expressing her excitement, Ellie Huff stated, "I am honored to serve as Chair of the 2023 Heart of Collin County – Heart Fest campaign. As a cardiac nurse, I have witnessed the devastating consequences of emergency cardiac events. I’ve personally assisted with fatal cardiac collapses in grocery stores and numerous cardiac emergencies on commercial flights. We must focus on prevention and halt heart disease before it takes hold. This campaign embodies the essence of wellness, and I am wholeheartedly dedicated to making a lasting impact on the prevention of heart disease.”

The 2023 Heart Fest concert will be held Saturday, November 4th at Legacy Food Hall in Plano. The event promises an evening filled with delectable food, exciting auctions, captivating entertainment, and an exclusive performance by a renowned, grammy-award winning Texas country band that will be announced in September.
