FORT WORTH, Texas (February 16, 2023) — The American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, is pleased to announce Corrie Harris as its new Tarrant County Executive Director.
At an early age Corrie became an entrepreneur, managing family-owned businesses with an international reach. As the one-time Executive Director for La Villa Familiar Nicaragua, an orphanage for children in crisis in Central America, Harris led fundraising campaigns and strategically restructured the organization to serve the Nicaraguan people.
“We are thrilled to share that Corrie Harris has joined our local team as the Tarrant County Executive Director,” said Sara Harwood, Senior Vice President, American Heart Association. “Harris is already a great addition to our team. Her extensive experience and nonprofit leadership add great value and we welcome her to help fulfill our life-saving mission.”
Prior to joining the American Heart Association, Harris served at Mindset 2X whose mission is to motivate and inspire sales professionals challenging them to double their expectations of what they can achieve. Previous roles held, like that at SMU's Lyle School of Engineering, show Corrie is an expert at organizational growth, development, and management. She also has proven expertise in recruiting and leading interdisciplinary teams spearheading global projects.
"Despite the notable progress that has been made, heart disease and stroke continue to kill more people in the U.S. than any other cause. There has been an alarming rise in Hypertension and thousands of our neighbors, right here in Tarrant County, live in food deserts and experience nutrition insecurity daily. There is still much work to be done,” Harris stated. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the amazing American Heart Association team serving Tarrant County and beyond. We are honored to work with our local school leaders, healthcare professionals, and forward-thinking corporations to impact change through education, research, and advocacy.”
A native of East Texas, Harris holds two master’s degrees from Southern Methodist University and a bachelor’s from UT Arlington. She enjoys playing golf, cooking for friends and family, and being in nature. She and her husband live in Tarrant County and have two adult children.
