Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk to take place at new location October 1
NEW LONDON, CT, August 18, 2023 – The American Heart Association announces that the 2023 Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk to take place on October 1 at its new location, University of Connecticut, Avery Point campus. The annual event will be chaired for a second year by Andrew Bond of General Dynamics Electric Boat.
Andrew Bond, Electric Boat Vice President of Planning will lead the organizational and recruitment efforts in eastern Connecticut. He will call on hundreds of area volunteers, survivors, walkers, and business leaders to step up to fight cardiovascular diseases.
“Serving as chair of the Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk for a second year provides the opportunity to continue the tremendous momentum we’ve created to bring education and wellness to our communities,” said Andrew Bond. “The health of our employees at Electric Boat is important to me. By working with the American Heart Association, we are making an impact on our collective health and making a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke for our employees and their families.”
As the Vice President of Planning for Electric Boat, Andrew Bond is responsible for the planning organization that integrates and optimizes business systems and processes across the enterprise to enable the design, engineering and construction of the next generation of nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy.
The Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk will attempt to raise $200,000 to fund research and education to fight heart disease and stroke. Each day, nearly 2,400 Americans die from cardiovascular disease. That’s an average of one death every 37 seconds. A leading risk factor for heart attack and stroke is lack of physical activity. Research has found that individuals may gain two hours of life expectancy for every one hour of regular, vigorous exercise they do.
The funds raised from the Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk go towards research, advocacy, CPR training and to promote better health in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, which is focused on reducing barriers to health care access and quality.
Current Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk sponsors are General Dynamics Electric Boat, the Heart and Vascular Center at Yale New Haven Health and The Mohegan Tribe.
