PITTSBURGH, April 10, 2023 – Make plans to attend the American Heart Association’s Greater Pittsburgh Go Red for Women Experience on May 11, at Acrisure Stadium, UPMC Club level. The flagship women’s heart health event raises awareness and helps fund the fight against heart disease and stroke, which claim the lives of 1 in 3 women.
Go Red for Women is an initiative of the American Heart Association, devoted to a world of healthier lives for all, designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally and globally.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined. Heart disease and stroke continue to be women’s greatest health threat in Greater Pittsburgh.
“As women, we often neglect our health while we are focused on others – I know I’m guilty of this, said Leeanna McKibben, Go Red for Women chair and the University of Pittsburgh chief of staff and vice chancellor for Health Sciences Administration. “I’m passionate about Go Red for Women because it’s about creating awareness and empowering women to take control of their health. The more we know about cardiovascular disease the better chance we have of beating it.”
This year’s Greater Pittsburgh Go Red for Women movement and its local achievements will be celebrated on Thursday, May 11 at Acrisure Stadium, UPMC Club level.
“We’ve moved from a luncheon to an evening cocktail networking event. Our Red Couch Conversation segment will feature a panel of brilliant local cardiologists ready to engage and empower attendees. I’m looking forward to a robust conversation and a great evening of inspiration and learning.” McKibben said.
The networking event will include a silent auction, cocktail reception, dinner and more.
Sylvia Owusu-Ansah, MD will provide a live Hands-Only CPR demonstration and topping the evening will be the Red Couch Conversation with cardiologists; Katie Berlacher, Elizabeth Ann Piccione, Rekha Pinto and Indu G. Poornima.
Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by CVS Health and locally sponsored by UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, FedEx Ground, University of Pittsburgh, The Buncher Company and KeyBank.

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 19 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
