DES MOINES, Iowa, Nov. 13, 2023 - Chris Costa, president and CEO of Knapp Properties, has been named the community volunteer chairperson for the 2024 Greater Des Moines Heart Ball.

The Heart Ball celebrates progress made through the dedication and passion of all who support the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all. The Heart Ball is part of the Heart of Greater Des Moines campaign, a year-round effort aimed at investing in, saving and improving lives throughout the Des Moines metro.

“Chris Costa exemplifies true leadership and commitment as an executive and dedicated volunteer in the Des Moines community and is the ideal person to head our Heart Ball campaign,” said Karen Rieck, chairperson for the American Heart Association, Greater Des Moines Board of Directors and vice president of human resources at Farm Bureau Financial Services. “As a trusted member of this community, he understands the impact the American Heart Association can have on every person and will help raise critical funds to equitably improve and save lives.”

Costa began his career with Knapp Properties in 1997. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 1987, he joined the Des Moines office of Deloitte & Touche, where he also obtained a certified public accountant designation. In 1993, he joined Knapp Construction, a residential construction company, as its chief financial officer.

A member of the 2007-08 Greater Des Moines Leadership Class, Costa has been active on numerous local boards and with several non-profit organizations throughout his career. His list of community involvement includes working with the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Easterseals of Iowa, Animal Rescue League of Iowa and ICON Water Trails, to name a few.

“As a heart survivor with a long family history of heart disease, I am honored to serve as chairperson for the 2024 Greater Des Moines Heart Ball,” Costa said. “I’m eager to work together with our outstanding team of volunteers as we advocate to make a difference in the well-being of the people of Des Moines.”

The Greater Des Moines Heart Ball is sponsored by Knapp Properties, Calamar Foundation, LLC and UnityPoint Health – Des Moines. The event is slated for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines.

The annual event is a night to celebrate the association’s year-round efforts to drive health equity in Greater Des Moines. This year’s campaign is specifically focused on tackling CPR education and awareness to ensure more Iowans have the chance to live a full and healthy life. Throughout the evening, the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health, will honor volunteers and patrons, feature stories of survivors and entertain guests with dinner, dancing and an exciting auction.
