Local leader to serve regionally for the American Heart Association
ATLANTA, August 14, 2023 — The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, has announced new officers to serve on the Southeast Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Angelica Geter, DrPH, MPH, executive vice president of Strategy and Business for the Black Women’s Health Imperative, from the metro Atlanta area, will serve on the board this year.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a public health expert, data scientist, and equity strategist, Dr. Geter is one of the nation’s foremost public health experts, specializing in evidence-based solutions to address health inequities. Since 2021, she has been engaged with the American Heart Association, serving on the Atlanta Health Equity Committee.
“The opportunity to serve on the Southeast regional board is a tremendous honor,” said Geter. “I look forward to helping advance the American Heart Association's work to improve heart health and furthering advocacy efforts in the communities served across the Southeast.”
During this fiscal year, Geter will play an instrumental role across the Southeast region in guiding efforts to reduce the incidences of heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 killers, respectively, of all American adults. . Her deep passion and commitment to the betterment of community health is reflected in her continuous work towards creating healthy environments for all.
The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
