DALLAS, November 4, 2024 — The American Heart Association is committed to improving cardiovascular health and reducing the impact of heart disease and stroke in communities across Texas. In line with this mission, the Association has announced the appointment of Meagan Johnson as the new Executive Director of its Dallas division. With over a decade of expertise in relationship development, fundraising, and leadership, Johnson will drive lifesaving work and connect the Association’s mission to North Texas communities and corporations

Johnson’s career is marked by significant contributions to the nonprofit sector. As the former Executive Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association - North Texas (MDA), she enhanced the organization’s financial performance and fostered a vibrant workplace culture. Following her tenure at MDA, Johnson served as the Senior Director of Corporate Relations at the American Cancer Society (ACS), locally known for its signature Cattle Barron’s Ball. A native of the Dallas and Plano area with a reputation for delivering results, Johnson is deeply connected to the community her new role serves.

“Meagan Johnson is a valuable addition to the team of Executive Directors across the organization,” said Jill Griffiths, Regional Senior Vice President at the American Heart Association. “Her extensive experience and passion for driving impactful work will be instrumental in advancing our mission to improve the lives and health of the community.”

Under Johnson’s leadership, the Dallas team will continue to expand on key local health initiatives such as implementing blood pressure programs in clinics across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and establishing new Community Hypertension Stations to combat heart disease and prevent strokes. To help further these efforts and lead new strategies aligning supporters with the Association’s goals to improve access to nutrition and address health disparities, Johnson is now part of a trusted team other organizations seek to collaborate with when ensuring access to vital health resources and needed support for everyone

The Dallas team will continue to lead efforts promoting Hands-Only CPR training, supporting the area becoming part of the Nation of Lifesavers™ so that every household in North Texas has at least one person prepared to act in the case of a cardiac emergency. Johnson will also oversee the teams executing the division’s significant annual events like the Dallas Go Red for Women experience and Côtes du Coeur, the Association’s award-winning celebrity chef and wine experience and spring gala fundraiser in Dallas.

As the American Heart Association’s celebration of its 100th anniversary year ends, the organization reflects on a century of progress in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Despite these advancements, they remain among the leading causes of death globally, claiming millions of lives each year. The Association remains dedicated to its mission of building a world of longer, healthier lives through innovative research, advocacy, and community programs. Leaders like Johnson will continue to help blaze trails as the organization embarks on its next century of saving lives and advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.
