Medical City Healthcare leader joins Tarrant County Board of American Heart Association

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 25, 2023 — The Tarrant County Division of the American Heart Association, welcomes new board member Ben Coogan, CEO of Medical City Fort Worth. The Board of Directors is made up of community leaders, medical professionals and executives who guide the Association to drive breakthroughs in science and technology, change systems and policies, address disparities and transform health care and the health of communities.

“I am honored to serve as the newest board member for the American Heart Association in Tarrant County. The organization has impacted so many in our community and plays a powerful role in the education and prevention of heart disease,” says Coogan. “At Medical City Healthcare, we are proud to join with the AHA in the battle against stroke and heart disease, and serve as the local sponsor of the Together to End Stroke® initiative. Together, we can advance clinical community education and create healthier tomorrows across Tarrant County.”

Coogan joins the leading voluntary organization devoted to a world of longer, healthier lives with nearly two decades of healthcare experience, including extensive experience in executive and senior-level leadership positions with Medical City Healthcare. The Association is excited to have Coogan’s industry knowledge that has served Fort Worth’s highly competitive medical district since 2019.

"We are thrilled to have Ben join our Board of Directors. Ben not only brings with him over seventeen years of experience in the healthcare industry, he also has a real passion for health and total well-being for himself and others. He is an advocate for hands-only CPR training and together with his fellow board members, I know we will advance our shared lifesaving missions,” says Corrie Harris, executive director of the American Heart Association, Fort Worth.

Having served as chief operating officer of Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children’s Hospital with operational oversight of key services and facility expansions, Coogan has proven leadership skills that will be beneficial to the mission of the American Heart Association.

Under his leadership, Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children’s Hospital underwent multi-million dollar capital improvements including a major OR expansion, emergency department renovation and a 22-bed NICU expansion. The hospitals have also maintained a Leapfrog Group A safety rating.

Prior to these great successes, Coogan served as chief operating officer at Medical City Arlington where he helped facilitate improvements including opening the $60 million Medical City Women’s Hospital Arlington, new neurotrauma ICU and inpatient rehabilitation units, a biplane interventional radiology lab and the renovation and expansion of the emergency department. He serves on several Medical City Healthcare committees, is the division representative for HCA Healthcare’s Vital Voices colleague survey and is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

The American Heart Association looks forward to working with Coogan, as he will make a great addition to a team that works toward building longer, healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
