TUCSON, AZ, April 26, 2023 — The Southern Arizona Heart Walks broke multiple records on Saturday, April 22.
The year’s event raised its highest overall revenue of $446,316. It also boasted the highest number of registrants (1,907), teams (167) and an estimated 4,000 walkers. Banner University Medicine-Tucson raised over $30,000 and registered 550 walkers, the highest raised and recruited by any single company in the 29-year history of the Southern Arizona Heart Walk.
KVOA News 4 Tucson had coverage of Banner’s Chief Operating Officer Meiko Onken getting soaked in slime by Banner Chief Executive Officer Sarah Frost to help raise their record funds.
Heart Walk sponsors included Banner University Family Care, Banner University Medicine, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Arizona Complete Health, Optum, Pima Medical Institute and TMC Health.
The funds raised will be used to fight the #1 and #5 killers in the nation, heart disease and stroke. Heart Walk donations help save the lives of children born with congenital heart defects, adults struggling with heart disease and fund the next heart and stroke medical breakthroughs.
