DALLAS, Dec. 28, 2020 — Now through December 31, the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, will receive a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $1 million dollars, for donations made directly at heart.org/donate. The match is made possible by donors who wish to remain anonymous during this extraordinary time.

“Now more than ever, the mission of the American Heart Association is critical as we zero in on barriers to healthier, longer lives- no matter where you live,” said Bertram Scott, chairman of the board of the American Heart Association. ”In 2020, we have seen heart disease and stroke continue as leading causes of death nationwide, in addition to a pandemic that is accelerating the need for health and medical resources.”

A gift to the American Heart Association can provide double impact to save lives from heart disease and stroke. There is not a single solution to improving health for all. That’s why the Association supports multifaceted solutions that address whole-body health. Donations fund innovative research, programs and resources targeting health equity, food insecurity, health-focused policy, CPR instruction, in-school health education and improvement of patient care.

Beyond the core mission of the American Heart Association has responded to the unfolding impact that COVID-19 has had on people with heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure, as 75%of people hospitalized with COVID-19 had a high-risk condition[1]. The organization has contributed life-saving policy, guidelines, funding and research to medical experts, hospitals, community leaders, businesses and families to reduce the impact of COVID-19.

“We are proud of the work we have done to bring trusted information, new knowledge, a sense of hope, and approaches for healing to patients, caregivers and professionals on the front lines,” said Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP, the American Heart Association’s chief medical officer for prevention. “New health challenges demand rapid responses and increased innovation for the solutions that help us better prevent, identify, and treat any new, emerging health issues that come our way.”
