Dallas, February 10, 2020 — Every 40 seconds, someone in America experiences a stroke or a heart attack.[1] This February, the American Heart Association, a global force for longer, healthier lives, is teaming up with companies around the country to change these outcomes through the Life Is Why We Give™ campaign. Life Is Why We Give inspires consumers to honor their reasons to live healthier, longer lives – by giving.

National brands including Kroger, Orangetheory Fitness, Pilot Company, Gordmans, Stater Bros. Markets, and Stein Mart will post signs and banner ads to let shoppers know how to give when they check out at the register or purchase certain products and services.

Donations through Life is Why We Give participating retailers – no matter the amount – allow the Association to:

  • Fund research that can improve the health outcomes of heart and stroke patients;
  • Train more than 2.5 million high school students in CPR annually; and
  • Support the work of local entrepreneurs and organizations working to improve health outcomes in under-resourced communities.

“The work we do at the American Heart Association to promote cardiovascular and brain health, prevent heart disease and stroke, support research, and provide resources to help people live longer, healthier lives – no matter where they live – is possible because of the support of contributors to Live is Why We Give,” said Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP, the American Heart Association’s chief medical officer for prevention.

Those interested in supporting the American Heart Association can look for the Life is Why We Give logo where they buy groceries, get their gas and shop in participating stores beginning in February. About Life Is Why We Give

We all deserve to live a long, healthy and happy life. However, heart disease and stroke are robbing too many of us of this chance. The American Heart Association is working to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to have a quality of life that they can spend more joyfully with family and friends. When people donate or purchase goods and services from our Life is Why We Give™ cause supporters, we move closer to creating the quality of life we all desire.  Life Is Why We Give aims to inspire consumers to think about their reasons to live healthier, longer lives and to give to American Heart Association for those reasons. For too long, heart disease and stroke have stolen our precious moments. It’s time we fight back together and affirm that we’re more powerful than these diseases… because everyone has a reason to live a longer, healthier life… and that reason is why we give.
