Voting rights are essential to promoting longer, healthier lives for all

DALLAS, April 12, 2021 — The American Heart Association, the leading voluntary organization focused on heart and brain health, is committed to ending the burden of cardiovascular disease for all by removing barriers to equitable health for everyone, everywhere. In pursuit of this goal, we work with elected officials through the democratic process to support public policies that advance health equity and provide everyone a fair chance to lead a healthy life.

The right to vote is essential for a free, fair and just society. As the nonpartisan business coalition Civic Alliance recently stated, “If our government is going to work for all of us, each of us must have equal freedom to vote and elections must reflect the will of voters.”

All eligible Americans should be able to exercise their right to vote in a manner that is free from bias or discrimination. We stand with all who share our values and support efforts to promote voting rights.
