Winner announced in Scientific Sessions 2023 Health Tech Competition

PHILADELPHIA, November 13, 2023 — The American Heart Association Center for Health Technology & Innovation named RCE Technologies the winner of its annual Health Tech Competition during Scientific Sessions 2023. Through the competition, the Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, aims to drive innovation and foster advancements with the potential to transform the landscape of heart and brain health.

RCE Technologies produces non-invasive, instant measurement of cardiac proteins to improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital length of stay and health care costs. The winning technology focuses on “diagnosing and treating myocardial heart injury in real time to empower [health care professionals] to provide the best patient care,” said Atandra Burman, founder and CEO of RCE Technologies.

This innovative technology was selected as the winner based on validity of the working prototype, scientific rigor and potential impact on patient outcomes.

RCE Technologies will receive membership to the Center for Health Technology & Innovation Innovators’ Network, a consortium that connects entrepreneurs, providers, researchers and payers. Innovators' Network members also have access to the Association's digital evidence-based guidelines, clinical recommendations and best-in-class science to support development of digital health care technologies. Members collaborate by building and sharing models for clinical outcome studies, lowering the significant cost of developing those studies independently, among other activities.

A panel of expert judges also selected Pyrames as the best business pitch and Cardiosense as the best science pitch, opening opportunities for them to connect with scientific and business leaders after Scientific Sessions. Pyrames presented technology to make it easier to measure blood pressure any time, any place. Cardiosense’s technology focuses on virtual heart failure management, including wearable sensors for ready detection and presymptomatic detection.

The Health Tech Competition provides an annual forum for technology innovators to showcase innovative new health-related solutions designed to accelerate the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Submissions must involve, engage or support patient treatment and solve a pervasive problem in antithrombotic, coronary artery disease/acute coronary syndrome, cardiometabolic, electrophysiology, heart failure, hypertension, imaging, lipids, resuscitation, stroke, surgery or vascular medicine. The Health Tech Competition is generously supported by the Laerdal Million Lives Fund.
