ASHTABULA COUNTY, March 25, 2024 – Ashtabula County Medical Center (ACMC) is seeking to add one service-oriented member to its team as part of the American Heart Association’s HeartCorps program that launched earlier this year.
“We are excited to collaborate with the American Heart Association to connect our patients to more resources around healthy lifestyles and heart health, while also providing an opportunity for individuals to gain experience supporting community health and education,” said Tina Stasiewski, ACMC’s Vice President of Business Development.
People in rural areas have a life expectancy that is three years shorter than people in urban areas, with rural areas having higher death rates for heart disease/attack and stroke. Making matters worse, rural communities face a critical shortage of health care professionals, including public health workers, which negatively impacts the care rural residents receive.
To help address this issue, the Association began its own Public Health AmeriCorps program, HeartCorps. The program is designed for those interested in driving health equity in rural America. Benefits for members include:
- A bi-weekly living stipend of $1108.70 (pre-tax) for FT members
- An educational award upon successful completion of service
- Health care benefits and a child care subsidy if eligible
- Professional development
- Direct access to job opportunities upon successful completion of program
HeartCorps Service Members will serve in-person and gain valuable experience supporting, developing and implementing programs and education around high blood pressure, nutrition security and smoking cessation.
Service placement starts on May 20 and will conclude in August. To learn more and to apply, visit www.heart.org/HeartCorps.
