Ann Arbor - Jackson Heart Ball raises over $1 million during centennial year

The American Heart Association celebrated a century of lifesaving work in the Ann Arbor area with a night of fundraising and celebration of survivors of heart disease and stroke.

ANN ARBOR (October 10, 2024) — The American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, celebrated a century of lifesaving work in the Ann Arbor area, raising over $1 million to continue their lifesaving mission at the 2024 Ann Arbor – Jackson Heart Ball.

The gala, held Friday, Oct. 4 in the Jack Roth Stadium Club at the University of Michigan, reflected on the achievements of the past 100 years and shared a vision of what’s to come in the next century. Led by Chair Dr. Kim Eagle, director, University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center and emceed by Jim Brandstatter, former voice of the Michigan Wolverines, the evening featured a live auction, dinner, dancing and tours of the Wolverine’s locker room with access to the football field.

“The Ann Arbor- Jackson Heart Ball at the Big House was an amazing event to celebrate 100 years of lifesaving work by the American Heart Association, honor 100 survivors of heart attack, stroke and cardiac arrest, and raise funds for groundbreaking research and education in the coming years,” said Dr. Eagle.

One of the most moving moments of the night came early, when 100 survivors of heart disease and stroke were recognized during the program’s opening. Survivors ranging in age from 3-80 years old filled the edges of the ballroom, putting faces to the impact of heart disease and stroke. Had this event taken place 30 years ago, some survivors may not have been present as some of the survivors’ treatments had not yet been discovered. Each face in the ballroom represented a story of resilience and hope, a testament to the life-saving impact of the American Heart Association’s research and discoveries. Thanks to these advancements, survivors now have the precious gift of more time with their loved ones.

Dr. Eagle continued, “Thanks to the tremendous generosity of volunteers and donors from our SE Michigan region, the event raised more than $1 million! This collaboration is vital for improved prevention, earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments for heart disease and stroke.”

The 2024 Ann Arbor – Jackson Heart Ball was made possible thanks to Platform Sponsor Michigan Medicine, Photo Sponsor Trinity Health and Local Event Sponsors Bank of Ann Arbor, BMW of Ann Arbor, Mercedes Benz of Ann Arbor, Comtronics, NuStep, O&W, SESI Lincoln, Subaru of Ann Arbor, and True Community Credit Union.
