LAS VEGAS, November 8, 2024 - The American Heart Association joined forces with Bishop Maceo Harris and Blood of the Lamb Community Ministries to establish a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan (CERP). This is part of the Nation of Lifesavers™ initiative, which aims to turn bystanders into lifesavers and double the survival rate from cardiac arrest outside of hospitals.
Blood of the Lamb (BOTL) Community Ministries is located in northeast Las Vegas, in a high-risk area where a significant portion of the community has increased risk factors for cardiovascular disease and experience disparities in accessing care. By increasing awareness and access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR training, BOTL aims to transform every member into a potential lifesaver. BOTL will achieve this by the purchase and installation of an AED (automated external defibrillator), having staff and key volunteers trained in Heartsaver CPR, and by hosting community Hands-Only CPR events.
Ms. Jamise Burch-Olds, Community Coordinator at BOTL, will lead the effort to implement and manage CERP in her church. “We are a church with a loving heart,” said Burch-Olds.
“This commitment not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the community's ability to act swiftly in the face of medical emergencies, truly embodying the spirit of a Nation of Lifesavers,” said Nichole Monzon, Community Impact Director, American Heart Association in Nevada.
The BOTL cardiac emergency response plan is the first faith-based CERP collaboration with the American Heart Association in Neveda.
