PHILADELPHIA, August 13, 2024 — The American Heart Association proudly announces its STEM Goes Red event, scheduled for November 12, 2024, at the prestigious Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, Penn Medicine.

STEM Goes Red is a cornerstone program of the AHA, leveraging its extensive legacy in science, education and discovery to propel young women into rewarding STEM careers. By providing direct access to leading employers, role models in the industry and hands-on experiences, STEM Goes Red illuminates diverse career pathways in STEM fields, often unseen or underrepresented to many young women.

The STEM Goes Red event will feature dynamic sessions, interactive panels and networking opportunities designed to inspire and equip attendees from the Philadelphia School District with the knowledge and confidence to pursue STEM careers. Participants will have the chance to engage directly with industry leaders and gain invaluable insights into emerging trends and opportunities in STEM fields.

A passion for learning and equity are at the heart of why colleagues at Bentley Systems, a provider of infrastructure engineering software, are central to this year’s STEM Goes Red event.

Leading the charge as chair is Angela Curry, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Bentley Systems. Angela’s legal and corporate responsibility background makes her a driving force in Bentley’s culture and inclusion efforts. She was honored as In-house Lawyer of the Year at the Chambers and Partners Diversity and Inclusion Awards in 2022, and a 2023 awardee of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Diversity in Business Awards, honoring Philadelphia’s top diverse business leaders.

“I am committed to empowering young women through STEM education and mentorship,” Curry said. “STEM Goes Red is an impactful program designed to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.”

Joining Curry are Bentley colleagues Ellen Lewis, Senior Proposal Manager, and Gina Mazzulla, a strategist in communications and community engagement. Lewis brings a unique perspective with her background in environmental law and dedication to community service through initiatives like the Chester County Food Bank’s volunteer garden program. Mazzulla’s extensive involvement in community organizations and educational initiatives has played a crucial role in developing Bentley’s philanthropic efforts in Chester County. She brings a wealth of experience from her tenure at The Wharton School and The Institutes, where she specialized in leadership and management development.

Curry added, “We invite all young women with a passion and curiosity for STEM to reach out to our team and discover the limitless possibilities awaiting them.”
