CHICAGO, August 26, 2024 — As the local and national movement for gender parity in health care continues, Emily Chase, executive vice president and chief operating officer at the University of Chicago Medical Center, has been named chair of this year’s Go Red for Women campaign. Since 2004, Go Red for Women has addressed the awareness and clinical care gaps of women’s greatest health threat, cardiovascular disease.
“Emily Chase exemplifies true leadership and a commitment to building equitable health care practices at one of our city’s leading hospitals,” said Meghan Gaeger, associate vice president of development for Go Red for Women at the American Heart Association, Chicago.
“In addition to her focus on building strong health care systems, Emily’s dedication to educating future health care providers is an embodiment of a key part of Go Red for Women’s mission, which is to empower women at every age and stage of life by giving future generations the tools to relentlessly pursue longer, healthier lives.”
An alumna of Saint Mary’s College, where she serves as an adjunct professor, Dr. Chase has applied her background in nursing and management to drive change in both nursing practice and education at health systems such as the University of Chicago Medicine as well as Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. Dr. Chase is also generous with her time and knowledge, volunteering as a board member with Valparaiso University in Indiana.
“Emily has a deep commitment to improving the lives of patients and the community and to driving a more equitable and inclusive environment, and she instills these values in those around her, including her daughter, who is studying to become a nurse,” said Tom Jackiewicz, president of the UChicago Medicine health system and the University of Chicago Medical Center. “She will undoubtedly continue to be a leading voice for women in STEM, women in health care administration and, most importantly, women helping other women lead long and healthy lives.”
Dr. Chase holds a Ph.D. in nursing research and administration from the University of Illinois and is a graduate of the Wharton Nursing Leaders Program through The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. Currently, Dr. Chase is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“I’m honored to serve as this year’s Chicago Go Red for Women chair,” said Dr. Chase. “Coming off of an incredible year celebrating two decades of blazing trails for women’s heart health, Go Red for Women now has an incredibly bright future ahead with a renewed responsibility to push for better health outcomes and a larger community of support for women in every walk of life in Chicago and nationwide.”
The 2024-2025 Go Red for Women campaign will see the return of staple events including STEM Goes Red and the Chicago Go Red for Women Executive Luncheon.
