SUMMIT & PORTAGE COUNTIES, OH (March 22, 2024) - The American Heart Association, the world’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, is inviting Greater Akron to its premier event to boost physical and mental health through healthy habits while supporting the lifesaving mission.

Join your friends and neighbors at an exciting new location on Saturday, June 15, 2024, for the Greater Akron Heart Walk. Participants, teams, and leashed pets are invited to the Akron RubberDucks Canal Park (300 S Main Street, Akron) to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds, and encourage physical activity. Greater Akron Heart Walk is among 250 Heart Walks held in communities across the nation. Nearly 1 million people walk each year for a singular mission, to cure heart disease and stroke.

The Heart Walk festivities kick off at 8:30 a.m. with our Healthy for Good Festival. Our youngest walkers can enjoy fun activities in the “Kids Zone” and participants can take part in health screenings and Hands-Only CPR demonstrations. The walk begins at 10:00 a.m. and includes a 1 and 3-mile paved course.

This year’s Greater Akron Heart Walk is led by Ebony Yeboah-Amankwah, vice president, ethics, compliance and enterprise risk at Signet Jewelers. “The work of the American Heart Association is critical to the health of our community,” said Yeboah-Amankwah. “Funds raised during the Heart Walk will advance education and research that will directly affect the health of Greater Akron residents. The Heart Walk has always been about coming together, getting hearts pumping, honoring survivors, raising lifesaving funds, and having fun along the way.”

Individuals and teams can register online at heart.org/akronwalk. From there, participants can download the Heart Walk mobile app and encourage friends and family to join in via e-mail, text or on social media.

The Greater Akron Heart Walk is the signature event of the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge program which is designed to help companies positively impact employee overall health and wellbeing. The program is anchored in a series of customizable workplace events that inspire employees to be more engaged, reconnect with colleagues, be physically active, support a great cause, and have fun along the way.

The funds raised from the Greater Akron Heart Walk go towards local programs in Summitt and Portage Counties including blood pressure control and CPR training. Funds also benefit research, advocacy, and public health education efforts to promote better health in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality.
