FORT WORTH (August 30, 2024) The Tarrant County Heart Walk, scheduled for Saturday, 21 September 2024, is a key event in the fight against heart disease and stroke. This year’s campaign focus is the American Heart Association’s preparation in Tarrant County for cardiac emergencies through its Nation of Lifesavers™ initiative, which aims to turn bystanders into lifesavers and double the survival rate from heart arrest outside of hospitals.

The Association is proud to have Kenneth Barr as the Honorary Chair for the Tarrant County Heart Walk. Barr, a distinguished leader and former mayor of Fort Worth, served four terms from 1996 until his retirement in 2003. Currently, he is an elected member and Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Tarrant County College, representing the college district on the TCC Foundation board. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Medical City Fort Worth Hospital. As Honorary Chair, Kenneth is supporting the Heart Walk, a signature event that unites thousands of participants, volunteers, and donors from across the community.

The Heart Walk not only raises critical funds for cardiovascular research and education but also celebrates survivors, honors those who have lost their lives to heart disease and stroke and promotes physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

“I am honored to serve as the Honorary Chair for the Tarrant County Heart Walk,” said Barr. “This annual event is always a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together, walk for heart health, and focus on creating a nation of lifesavers. By working together, we can make Tarrant County a safer place for everyone.”

The Heart Walk is a family-friendly weekend event that promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living. Thousands of people from across North Texas will gather at The Shops at Clearfork to participate. The walk features pre-event fun on stage, a kid zone, an area for furry four-legged walkers on a leash, and opportunities to learn Hands-Only CPR and ways to help advocate for the American Heart Association. With pleasant September weather in the forecast, it’s the perfect time to come together for a great cause. The walk will kick off at 9:00 AM from the start line and walkers can choose between a one-mile route and a 5K route. The event will have plenty of hydration stations and will feature Survivor Lane, celebrating survivors of all ages as they cross the finish line.
