FORT WORTH, November 15, 2024 — The American Heart Association is dedicated to improving cardiovascular health and reducing the impact of heart disease and stroke in communities across Texas. As part of this commitment, the Association is proud to announce the appointment of Meagan Hemenway as the new Executive Director for its Tarrant County division. Hemenway brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her extensive career in philanthropy and is a passionate advocate for the mission of the American Heart Association.

With 17 years of fundraising experience, Hemenway has made significant contributions to renowned organizations such as the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, and most recently, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, where she served as Vice President of Development.

The Region Senior Vice President overseeing the Association's efforts in North Texas, Jill Griffiths had this to say about Hemenway: "Her deep understanding of the North Texas philanthropic community and her expertise across all areas of fundraising, including capital, operating, and endowment campaigns, special events, and board recruitment and governance, make her an invaluable addition to our team. We are confident that her leadership will significantly enhance our efforts and impact in Tarrant County."

In her new role, Hemenway will spearhead the Association’s continued efforts promoting Hands-Only CPR training, supporting the area becoming part of the Nation of Lifesavers™ by ensuring every household has at least one person prepared to act in a cardiac emergency. The Tarrant County team works alongside area organizations tackling key initiatives in North Texas addressing maternal health, nutrition security, women’s health, community hypertension rates, and more. She will also oversee the execution of key campaigns and annual events, including the Heart Walk in Fort Worth, the Tarrant County Heart Ball, the Tarrant County Go Red for Women luncheon, the local STEM Goes Red initiative, and Northeast Tarrant County's Hats for Heart tea and fashion show.

Hemenway is also deeply involved in her community, serving as Co-VP of Development for the Dallas Children's Theater Board of Directors. She resides in Southlake with her husband, who works in finance, and their three young children.

As the American Heart Association’s celebration of its 100th anniversary year ends, the organization reflects on a century of progress in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Despite these advancements, they remain among the leading causes of death globally, claiming millions of lives each year. The Association remains dedicated to its mission of building a world of longer, healthier lives through innovative research, advocacy, and community programs. Hemenway joins as the organization embarks on its next century of saving lives and advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere.
