Vandalia, OH, October 7, 2024 - Through the American Heart Association, Kettering Health is moving the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Training Kiosk to the Vandalia Recreation Center (1111 Stonequarry Rd, Dayton, OH 45414).

“The continued enthusiasm for the Mobile Hands-Only CPR Training Kiosk is great to see and really reinforces why Kettering Health partnered with the American Heart Association to make this kiosk available to families all over the Miami Valley,” said Alina Joseph, executive director of Kettering Health’s Heart and Vascular service line. “We hope patrons of the Vandalia Recreation Center take the time to learn this lifesaving skill, so they can feel empowered to help a loved one in an emergency.”

“The City of Vandalia Division of Fire is excited to announce a partnership with the American Heart Association and Kettering Health to introduce a Hands-Only CPR Kiosk at the Vandalia REC Center,” said Rich Morrett, Community Risk Reduction Coordinator. “This initiative aims to equip our community with essential lifesaving skills. This is just another way that the Division of Fire continues to provide Top-Teir services to our community”.

The kiosk provides Hands-Only CPR training to the public in five minutes or less. The kiosk features a touchscreen video program with a brief introduction and overview of Hands-Only CPR, followed by a practice session and a 30-second test. With the help of a practice manikin (a rubber torso), the kiosk gives feedback about the depth and rate of compressions and proper hand placement.

“Most cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals, and we never want someone to feel like they can’t help a loved one,” said Stephanie Yenn, Executive Director of the American Heart Association. “The Hands-Only CPR Kiosk is a tool to empower people to learn the lifesaving skill of CPR so they can act and save the life of a loved one if an emergency strikes.”

This training kiosk moves across the Miami Valley to make CPR training widely available as part of the American Heart Association’s mission to train one member of every household in CPR.

The lasting impact of making CPR training widely available:

  • Every year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital, and more than 20% occur in public places like airports, casinos, and sporting facilities
  • CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
  • Studies show that Hands-Only CPR is equally as effective as conventional mouth-to-mouth CPR, and people are more likely to feel comfortable performing it.
