DALLAS, JULY 2024 - The American Heart Association is broadening efforts to drive CPR education in Dallas through its annual Heart Challenge campaign alongside 220 other cities nationwide. This community-facing initiative is engaging local companies, corporations, and their employees with opportunity to contribute to the fight against heart disease and stroke while also helping drive the organization-wide Nation of Lifesavers™ movement, the Association’s most recent commitment to CPR with the declaration to double survival rates of cardiac arrest by 2030

Dallas leaders are raising funds and sparking action-oriented conversations about employee health, corporate engagement, community health transformation. This year, Oncor CEO Allen Nye will serve as chair of the 2024 Dallas Heart Challenge™ campaign, leading a team of 12 Dallas executives to further the mission and celebrate community impact at upcoming milestones including Heart Walk® and Executives with Heart.

“We started our journey with the American Heart Association and the Heart Walk in 2012. It didn’t take long for us to realize that for Oncor, it was far more than a 5k walk or fundraiser. We couldn’t have predicted the incredible response from our employees and suppliers, and the countless ways this partnership would impact our culture.

The Heart Walk has become bigger than we ever expected at Oncor - it’s now a tradition. We not only raise funds, but we recognize positive lifestyle changes, host friendly competitions, honor loved ones and survivors, challenge each other to prioritize our heart health and celebrate together. This year, we want at least one person in every household to learn CPR,” said Nye. “Imagine the lifesaving impact we could make if every home in Dallas had a hero in waiting who was confident and ready to act in a cardiac emergency. By connecting with the community through Heart Walk, we can turn our community of bystanders into a community of lifesavers.”

Nine out of ten people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital die, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), especially if performed immediately, can double or triple survival rates. Heart Challenge™ provides resources, tools and activities to employers for CPR demonstrations and mental and physical well-being for employers and employees. Heart disease and stroke are preventable and how you eat, move, and manage stress impacts your well-being, physically and mentally

The Dallas Heart Walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, on the lawn of Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas. Participants can choose a 1-mile or 5k option. Walkers gather early for some pre-walk fun featuring an area for furry four-legged walkers, a Happy Little Hearts kid zone with inflatables, face painting, and healthy activities. There is also an active warm-up before the opening ceremonies, then walkers lace up at the finish line for a 9am start. Companies interested in participating can contact Danielle Chelf at Danielle.chelf@heart.org or visit DallasHeartWalk.org.
