PORLAND, Oregon, March 20, 2024 – Patty Groman, OnPoint Community Credit Union’s chief people officer will serve as the 2024 Oregon and southwest Washington Go Red for Women® executive volunteer chairperson. The Go Red for Women movement is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. As the American Heart Association celebrates its 100th birthday, Groman will play a critical role by leading Portland Go Red for Women initiatives and events.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming more lives than all cancers combined. Nearly 45% of women over age 20 are living with some form of CVD[1]. Heart disease and stroke continue to be Oregon and southwest Washington women’s greatest health threat.

“I was inspired to chair Go Red for Women this year because heart disease impacts so many women of all ages and all races. I want to further the awareness and education that the American Heart Association delivers to students in our community. I know firsthand how the work of the Association has impacted our lives over the last 100 years,” said Groman. “As we look toward the next 100 years, I’m looking forward to bringing our community together to advance this lifesaving mission and support women in Portland and beyond.”

The 2024 Go Red for Women campaign in Oregon and southwest Washington is focused on educating young women about heart disease risks. Groman and her volunteer leadership team picked the theme for this year’s luncheon; planting seeds today for the future of tomorrow.

“We are so grateful to have Patty as our Go Red for Women chairperson this year,” said Dr. Nandita Gupta, American Heart Association Oregon and southwest Washington volunteer board president and PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center chief medical officer. “Her passion for our mission and leadership will make a notable impact on the lives of women in our community and the families that depend on them.”

Go Red for Women is a global movement with impact across the United States and in more than 50 countries around the world. This year’s Go Red for Women movement and its local achievements will be celebrated on September 26 at the 2024 Oregon and southwest Washington Go Red for Women Luncheon.

Go Red for Women is nationally sponsored by CVS Health and the Oregon and southwest Washington Go Red for Women Luncheon is locally sponsored by Cambia Health Foundation, Providence Health Plan, and OnPoint Community Credit Union. About Go Red for Women®

The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For more than two decades, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
