Philadelphia, May 1, 2024 – The American Heart Association announces the success of the Hard Hats with Heart Homerun Derby, an annual event held on Monday, April 29th and Tuesday, April 30th at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Hard Hats with Heart Homerun Derby aims to combat heart disease by rallying support for heart health initiatives within the construction industry. With over 25 sponsoring teams, participants had the opportunity to take 20 swings each, aiming for the stands.
This two-day event garnered support from the Philadelphia Phillies, company team sponsors, participants, spectators, and even Philadelphia Eagles players contributed to its success.
Hard Hats with Heart Chairman Scott Allen, Managing Director, Northeast Regional Market Lead, and Project Manager at CBRE, said, "The success of the Hard Hats with Heart Homerun Derby reflects the collective efforts of our community to support heart health initiatives. It's inspiring to see our industry come together for such an important cause, and I'm proud to have played a role in making this event a reality."
The Hard Hats with Heart Homerun Derby serves not only as a sporting event but also as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for heart health initiatives. Attendees enjoyed hands-on CPR demonstrations, lunch in the concourse, silent auction, and even provided time for networking out of the office.
Jennifer Litchman-Green, Sr. Executive Director/Sr. Vice President, Development and Community Health, American Heart Association Philadelphia, emphasized the event's impact on heart health awareness and fundraising efforts. Litchman-Green said, "This event really demonstrates the incredible impact we can have when we come together as a community to support heart health initiatives. Hard Hats with Heart not only raises vital funds, but also raises awareness – in a fun way – about the importance of heart health in our community, and more specifically in the construction industry, ultimately saving lives."
Heart disease remains a significant concern within the construction industry with approximately 1 in 25 construction workers being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease.
Events like Hard Hats with Heart aim to make a difference when it comes to awareness of these staggering statistics and raise funds to fight against heart disease.
