COLUMBUS, OH – June 5, 2024 – The Central Ohio Heart Walk is rallying the community to be stronger than ever with their Heart Walk Rally Day. Rally Day is designed to encourage participation and fundraising for the 2024 Central Ohio Heart Walk. On Rally Day, the American Heart Association is issuing a 24-hour challenge to recruit 500 walkers across the community by registering for the Heart Walk as a community team or community walker.

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s largest community initiative, engaging companies and communities throughout the year to enhance CPR training accessibility, raise funds for cardiovascular research and promote equitable health for everyone. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. at McFerson Commons Park and will unite supporters to “join a community of lifesavers,” emphasizing CPR as a key mission focus for participants.

“The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is turning bystanders into lifesavers by inspiring one person in every household to be prepared and confident to perform CPR,” Nancy Tobbe, executive director for the American Heart Association, Central Ohio says. “With the support of tens of thousands of walkers from across our community, we can prepare more people to act, so that in the event of a cardiac emergency, anyone, anywhere is empowered and ready to perform CPR.”

9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. It's time to unite, take action and save lives. The American Heart Association invites everyone to join the Heart Walk to broaden their impact by turning bystanders into lifesavers. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, the community can rally and unite and walk to save lives.
