CHARLESTON, WV, June 3, 2024 — Do you know the two steps to save the life of someone who has a cardiac arrest? Would you know how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, if the need arose? As part of “CPR Awareness Week” (June 1-7) and as part of their “Ride with Heart” program, your American Heart Association and Link Transportation are offering a FREE CPR demonstration clinic this Wednesday (June 5) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Link Transportation’s facilities (312 21st Street West, Charleston, WV).
The clinic will be hosted by Cindy Keely, QORA Director for the American Heart Association and a certified CPR instructor. Along with her, Chad Jones, Chief of EMS Operations for the City of Charleston, and Captain David Hodges, Charleston Fire Department, will be there to present a proclamation from Mayor Amy Goodwin. Link Transportation will also participate in the clinic, having their drivers and office staff participating.
“We know that CPR is a skill that truly can mean the difference between life and death,” said Holly Mitchell, Community Impact Director for the American Heart Association. “With West Virginia being such a rural state, emergency responders may have to make long trips to help someone who has a cardiac arrest. Bystander CPR is critical in these situations. Everyone can learn how to perform CPR and everyone should, so we hope the community will come out to this clinic.”
"In the world of transportation, we are always striving to provide resources for our team that focus on safety,” said Jeb Corey, CEO of Link Transportation. “CPR techniques are great to know and could help save a life. As part of our partnership with the American Heart Association, we are excited to offer the community the opportunity to take advantage of these free resources on how to conduct hands-only CPR."
“Ride With Heart” is a two-month-long awareness campaign aimed at educating passengers and community members on cardiovascular health, stroke symptoms, and CPR. Along with the clinic, Link vehicles will have headrest covers that have information and a QR code for passengers to scan during their trip.
