TYLER, Texas, Nov. 9, 2023 — Retired cardiac surgeon Dr. Charles Lee has been selected as a Physician with Heart, a distinction by the Tyler market of the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all.

Lee and cardiologist Dr. David Dick will be recognized at the Tyler Heart Ball Feb. 17, 2024. American Heart Association Region Vice President, Community Markets Michelle Stoddard describes Tyler Physicians with Heart as a year-long initiative to recognize medical providers in Tyler who exemplify integrity, passion and commitment to improving the heart health of our community. A third honoree will be named before the ball.

“I am beyond pleased for the opportunity to highlight Dr. Lee who was nominated by his peers for the many years he served East Texans,” said Tyler Heart Ball Chairperson March Ferguson. “I have heard many success stories from patients he has helped save and many kind words from cardiologists, health care providers and clinicians who enjoyed working with him.”

Lee graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1981, completed training in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in 1986 and completed training in cardiothoracic surgery at the Texas Heart Institute in 1988.  He eventually moved to Tyler where he practiced adult cardiac surgery for the next 28 years at both Trinity Mother Frances and East Texas Medical Center hospitals until he retired in 2016.

“It was a privilege to participate in the growth and development of the cardiac programs in Tyler which have become such a valuable resource for the patients of East Texas,” said Lee.
