SAN ANTONIO, Sep. 8, 2026 — According to recent American Heart Association projections, by 2050, almost 60% of women could have high blood pressure. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the No. 1 killer of women, but it doesn’t have to be.[1] The American Heart Association, a relentless force changing the future of health for everyone everywhere, is encouraging women to prioritize their heart health.

Leading that effort locally is Dr. Chaunte Hall, chief of community engagement at Port San Antonio, who is serving as the 2027 chair for San Antonio’s Go Red for Women® movement. This campaign empowers women to take charge of their heart health by educating them on their risk factors in every stage of life while addressing critical gaps in research and health care. Go Red for Women is dedicated to helping every woman, in every stage of life, improve their heart and brain health.

“I’ve experienced firsthand how women’s health concerns are sometimes minimized or overlooked,” said Hall. “That experience has strengthened my commitment to advocating for greater awareness, earlier intervention, and ensuring women receive the research, screenings, and care they deserve.”

Despite the threat of CVD an American Heart Association survey found less than half of women are aware of their unique risk. With about 70% of cardiac arrests happening outside of a hospital, women are less likely to receive CPR from a bystander than a man, and men have 23% higher odds of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest than women. Go Red for Women is committed to closing gaps in access to care, championing a community of support, raising awareness of CPR as a lifesaving skill.

“Too often, women spend their lives caring for everyone else while placing their own health last. Serving as Chairwoman for San Antonio Go Red for Women allows me to help change that narrative,” said Hall. “I want women to understand that taking care of their hearts isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Healthy women strengthen families, workplaces, and communities. “If we want stronger communities tomorrow, we must invest in the health of women today.”

The San Antonio Go Red for Women campaign officially kicks off at Breakfast in Red on September 24 at The Hayden in downtown San Antonio. This event provides and an opportunity to learn more about the Go Red for Women movement and connect with others supporting women's heart health. The 2027 Go Red for Women summit theme, Woman of Impact nominees, and Executive Leadership team will also be announced at Breakfast in Red.

About Go Red for Women®

The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For more than two decades, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.
