San Diego, January 29, 2024 — Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in San Diego and Chris Howard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sharp HealthCare, is working hand-in-hand with the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, to change that. Howard will serve as the 2024 San Diego Heart and Stroke Walk Centennial chair, a community campaign focused on engaging local companies, corporations and their employees to join the fight against heart disease and stroke.

“I’m sincerely honored to serve as Chair of this year’s Heart and Stroke Walk,” Howard said. “As San Diego’s leading healthcare provider, Sharp is committed to improving the cardiovascular health of our community. Our partnership with the American Heart Association is just one way to ensure we fulfill our mission to improve the health of those we serve with a commitment to excellence in all that we do. I look forward to joining community members as we raise funds vital to the Association’s efforts to save lives.”

At the American Heart Association, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity for a longer healthier life. For nearly 100 years it’s been the Heart Association’s mission to fulfill that vision. With bold hearts, the Association now forges ahead into our Second Century, fueling science and innovation, funding lifesaving research and boldly standing for the rights of patients and caregivers, to empower healthier communities and transcend the way we live, work and play. One of the ways the Heart Association creates a vision for a healthier future is through events like the Heart and Stroke Walk.

“We are incredibly grateful for Chris Howard who is stepping up to move the needle when it comes to heart disease and stroke” said Jessica Newmyer, Executive Director of the American Heart Association San Diego. “Through the Heart and Stroke Walk, we are able to drive maximum impact through employee engagement and corporate fundraising. Together, we can save lives right here in San Diego”.

Heart disease and stroke are largely preventable and how you eat, move and manage stress impacts your well-being, physically and mentally. The Heart and Stroke Walk provides resources, tools and activities to support both mental and physical well-being for employers and employees.
