HOLLYWOOD, FL, July 16, 2024 -- The American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, is pleased to announce local leader, Alex Almazan, founder and managing partner of Almazan Law, a Florida-based law firm with offices in Miami and Tampa, as the 2024-2025 Chair-Elect for the Southeast Regional Board.
Almazan stands alongside a dynamic team of leaders including Shelly Church, CFP and Dr. Sandra Burke who will continue in their roles as chair and president of the board respectively for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Other members include new president-elect Dr. Andre McShan, and new board members Neal Blinde, Dr. Gul Dadlani, Kristen Gradney, Dr. Michael Hall, Dr. Adrian Hernandez, Dr. Daniel Muñoz and Lance Zingale.
Almazan is a long-standing volunteer with the American Heart Association and has served in various capacities at both national and local levels. He was chair of the national Diversity Leadership Committee, chair of the Greater Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Board and 2019 Miami Heart Walk, notably introducing the 5K run portion to the event and has served on various national committees relating to advocacy, mission assessment and strategic planning. Alex currently sits on the national Governance Committee of the Social Impact Fund.
Bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to this leadership role, Almazan is a strong supporter of the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into his practice of law. He also sees the impact and advancement possible in the health sector through the integration of AI and technology, with a focus on historically disenfranchised people with limited access to healthy food and access to quality health care.
“I am honored to step into this role as chair-elect and continue advancing the mission of the American Heart Association,” said Almazan. “I am committed to furthering health equity and ensuring cardiovascular well-being for all in South Florida.”
During this fiscal year, Almazan will play an instrumental role in guiding efforts to reduce heart disease and stroke, the Nos. 1 and 5 killers, respectively, of all American adults across the Southeast region. His commitment to advancing heart health and well-being in the communities we serve is unwavering.
The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
