North Ridgeville, OH, March 2, 2026 — Nearly half of all U.S. adults are living with high blood pressure, a major health threat that many don’t realize they have, according to the American Heart Association.
During American Heart Month, the Greater Cleveland American Heart Association launched its first Libraries with Heart location in Lorain County.
On Friday, February 13, the Association installed its Libraries with Heart blood pressure hub at the North Ridgeville Branch of the Lorain Public Library System. This hub provides free, accessible blood pressure self-monitoring within a trusted community space, helping residents better understand and manage their heart health.
“North Ridgeville serves a diverse and growing community, including working families, older adults, and individuals who may face barriers to regular preventive care,” said Angie Lastovka, community impact director, Greater Cleveland American Heart Association, “Locating a blood pressure hub within the library helps normalize heart-health conversations, reduce access barriers, and meet people where they already are.”
According to the American Heart Association, regular blood pressure monitoring outside a doctor’s office leads to more accurate diagnoses and better outcomes. In fact, self-monitoring is linked to lower blood pressure, improved control, and a significantly reduced risk of serious health issues including heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and more.
“All of our branches offer blood pressure kits for loan, but some people are unsure of themselves and not as comfortable taking their own reading,” said Director of Marketing and Public Relations Jennifer Black. “This gives our patrons another option. We are thrilled to be part of this program as it is another vital resource we are able to provide for our community members at no cost.”
This branch is part of the Lorain Public Library System, which includes six locations across Lorain County. The American Heart Association’s goal is to expand the Libraries with Heart model to all remaining branches, creating a countywide network of accessible blood pressure hubs focused on prevention, early detection, and community education.
The American Heart Association currently has six Libraries with Heart hubs in Ashtabula County.
