PORTLAND, July 02, 2024 — The American Heart Association Oregon and southwest Washington division announced new leaders and board members for its 2024-2025 volunteer Board of Directors. Anthony Mulholland, MN, RN, NE-BC, OHSU Healthcare’s Ambulatory Services vice president and chief nursing officer, will serve as the new volunteer board president. Dr. Derenda Schubert, Bridge Meadows executive director, will serve as the volunteer chairperson.

Mulholland has been a nurse for more than twenty years, serving in progressive roles from critical care staff nurse to roles in nursing leadership, such as administrator on duty, nurse manager, director, senior director and now vice president and chief nursing officer. He received a Master of Nursing degree in health systems and organizational leadership and is an American Organization of Nurse Leaders Fellow. In addition to volunteering with the American Heart Association, Mulholland also serves as instructor with OHSU Global SE Asia nurse and executive development projects.

“I’m honored to serve in this leadership role for the American Heart Association as it celebrates its 100th anniversary of saving lives and improving health,” said Mulholland. “I have a strong personal and professional connection to the Association’s mission. I’m eager to continue working with the Association in this leadership role to help improve the quality of lives and health for all our Oregon and southwest Washington residents.”

Schubert brings extensive professional experience counseling children and families and creating, managing and evaluating foster care, mental health and developmental disability programs. Schubert leads the team that created Bridge Meadows intergenerational housing communities, advocating nationally for intergenerational solutions to complex social challenges. She is a graduate of Purdue University and DePaul University.  Her passion for making the world a better place is inspired by her own children and the love of her grandmothers.

“It’s a privilege to serve Oregon and southwest Washington as the Association’s new volunteer board chairperson for the next two years” said Schubert. “Celebrating our first 100 years of impact and stepping boldly into the second century of new cardiovascular discoveries motivates me to keep focused on the American Heart Association’s mission. Our future is truly about improving the lives of people right here in our communities.”
