GREENVILLE, Jan. 30, 2025 — The American Heart Association, devoted to a world of healthier lives for all, has welcomed ten Upstate women to serve on the organization’s Go Red for Women® 2025 Executive Leadership Team. This group of corporate and community leaders contribute significant resources and influence in support of the Go Red for Women movement in the Upstate, driving local support to fund lifesaving research and educate women about heart disease—the No. 1 killer of women nationwide.
The Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team is led by chairpersons Allison Rogers and Megan Early Soppa. Other members include Wendy Carnes, Catherine Carter, Sara Beth Downing, Elise Merhej, Chunsta Miller, Cheyenne Putnam, Katie Sanders and Kelly Smith.
“It is an honor to work alongside this passionate group of community leaders devoted to raising awareness about heart disease and women’s health,” says Rogers. “We look forward to advocating for a better future for all women—in communities like ours and around the world.”
In addition to the American Heart Association Upstate’s Go Red for Women on Wednesday, April 23, the Executive Leadership Team hosts philanthropic events throughout the year to raise support for groundbreaking research and advocate for women’s health. In 2024, the group hosted its first STEM Goes Red event, inspiring young women to drive positive change through innovation, technology, and health and wellness.

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 18 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
